I have been collecting stamps for nearly 20 over years and have decided to go into a part-time partnership with a friend who also has a love for Philately - The study of stamps, the history and other related memorabilia. I am particularly interested in the technical aspects of stamp production and stamp identification. As a start to this small business, I am looking to specialise in acquiring and selling quality Penny Black stamps. The Penny Black is the world's first adhesive postage stamp that was used in a public postal system and issued in the United Kingdom on 1 May 1840. Penny Blacks are not rare stamps as 68 million of these were printed, but as the world's first adhesive postage stamp, in my opinion, it holds a significant piece of history and would make it a very valued piece in most collections.
The aim of the Penny Black Store, is to offer to collectors all around the world with genuine, quality Penny Black stamps. The aim of this blog is to provide collectors and philatelic enthusiasts with a central knowledge resource and database that brings together other bits of information about the Penny Black that is somewhat scattered all over. This site consolidates information into a single, purposeful repository here and I have provided sources and acknowledgements at the end of each post just in case readers might want to read more from the actual source. By having a centralised blog, it is hoped that the collecting and appreciation of the Penny Black stamp can be made much easier and fully enjoyed. Thank you for visiting this website. Your custom means a lot to us and we appreciate your business. - From your friends at The Penny Black Store.
